![]() What is a cigar Humidor? I believed that you already know what is a cigar humidor. However, Cigar Humidor is a device where you can store your cigar to keep them fresh. Humidor maintains the humidity and temperature which is essential for cigars to keep them fresh. Now, I am going to discuss wood types of a Humidor. Why is it important? It is important because humidor is to use maintain humidity and all wood could not do that properly. There are several kinds of wood which are use to make a humidor. Spanish cedar, mahogany, cherry, walnut, maple, oak are generally used. Now, the question is which one is the best? It is Spanish cedar definitely. But why? Because Spanish cedar can properly maintain the temperature and the humidity of a humidor. Features of Spanish Cedar: . The most important thing is that Spanish cedar is the most effective wood type which nicely regulates the temperature and humidity level of the humidor. . Spanish cedar prevents to grow tobacco beetles in the humidor. If you store your cigar for a certain time, Spanish cedar will protect your cigar from tobacco beetles. . Spanish cedar humidor keeps the cigar flavor same for a long time. Other wood type for Humidor: After the Spanish cedar, Mahogany and American red cedar are the most popular wood type for the humidor. American red cedar is not so good at Spanish cedar but you rely on that. And the great thing is that the cost of American red cedar is much less than the Spanish cedar. On the other hand, Mahogany is also good for absorption like the Spanish cedar but not good to prevent tobacco cedar. Other materials of a Humidor: Most of the time, only the interior lining is made from the wood because a solid wood humidor is very costly. What are the other materials from which the outside of a humidor is made from? . The outside of humidor is made from some exterior materials including glass, metal etc. .These exterior materials do a good job to protect your cigar from damage and these materials vary in price. Most of the humidors you see in the market are either square shape or rectangular shape depending upon the manufacturer. There is also some large humidor like walk-in humidor which covered the whole room. Final Verdict: In the present time, the interior lining of the humidor is made by some type of wood. And the Spanish cedar is the best wood type for the humidor. The mahogany or American red cedars are also good for the humidor. However, It doesn’t matter what type of wood you select, just be sure that your humidor can maintain the humidity level and temperature properly so that your cigar can remain fresh.
